I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter by LordLJCornellPhotos I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter by LordLJCornellPhotos
I found an old writing set from 1940 in a charity shop. I really liked it. There is a small calendar in the little window there and the writing paper and envelopes are original. I really wanted this to be right so I found a vintage fountain pen company and got hold of a genuine late 1930s pen. I then wanted a period pair of glasses and found some. The watch should also be suitable for the picture. (I hope so, I am no watch expert).
I hope you like this picture.

I love the idea, the composition is excellent and all you're missing seems to be a calling card for that little pocket underneath the pen cap. Lovely set in really good shape!

Well, it looks to be the right size for calling cards, so one would have the addresses handy?

Very nostalgic.  I love this photo and the way you arranged the items.  Believe it or not, when I was in elementary school, we actually used pens with pots of ink.  We then moved on to the fountain pens and I remember buying the ink cartridges.  I don't know what the purpose of this exercise was but now I think it was pretty cool.  If this was meant to improve my handwriting, it didn't work.  To this day I get remarks about what horrible handwriting I have.

Same here Jeanie. I can barely read my own writing sometimes but we used
fountain pens when I was a little kid.
Mind you, I think I was brighter as a kid :)

Aw this is so nice. As a big Doctor Who fan it reminds me of that with the pocket watch holding his life and the blue like the T.A.R.D.I.S :giggle:

Oh just something I threw together Sue............la di da.......
Do you like it? I'm new to this kind of thing. I liked the writing set so much I wanted to do it justice and give it a chance to be seen again
I actually went to a lot of trouble to get the various bits together and then I just sat there and thought  "what am I going to do with it?"
Thanks for the compliment too

Thank you. I had got all the pieces but I don't really do this kind of photography so I wanted it to look natural but also balanced as an image.
How did I do?
I was pretty sure you weren't as old as this set
