From wooden beginnings by LordLJCornellPhotos From wooden beginnings by LordLJCornellPhotos
This is Helmsley Castle in North Yorkshire. The first castle here was built from wood around 1120 and was then changed to stone some fifty years later. I am calling this a landscape because I have treated it as such. The old buildings are returning to nature slowly. The town of Helmsely falls within the North York Moors National Park in northern England.

Such a unique place and story. And beautifully shoted. Interesting distorting effect, have you used 'fish eye'?

Thank you Anna :)
It is a wide angle but it is not a fish eye.
I think it's about 16mm :)

Apparently they dug a ditch instead of building a motte.

We know why they slighted so many castles, but from our point of view, it's too bad.

Personally I love a ruin
they are very romantic places
we have plenty of castles that are still in one piece too.

I love it when nature reclaims man-made objects. There's something so beautiful about that process of decay.
