Poppies and Roman ruins by LordLJCornellPhotos Poppies and Roman ruins by LordLJCornellPhotos
In Pompeii, no matter how busy, you can find a glimpse of solitude and peace through gaps in buildings, old doorways or a window onto the past. There are many poppies in Pompeii which seems, somehow, fitting.

I was there long ago, in the former century actually ;P I agree :)
In this photo I like the way in which walls, hmm I don't know how to put it in English properly, the ruins seem to form kind of "layers" in the
picture which lead the viewer's sight into the place.
That's why I commented this one, while I also enjoyed the landscapes of Scotland and Iceland.

So beautiful.... The soul lives on, the body dies. The mansions and palaces, the buildings become ruins. But the  story lives on ...

The whole place is magical. About a third of it has not even been excavated yet :)
There is so much more to come that nobody has seen yet :)

Very beautiful shot, Lawrence. Dear friends of mine just visited Pompeii about a week ago and showed me their photos with all the poppies growing there :) It really looks very peaceful.
