My thoughts and the thoughts of all decent human beings are with those affected by the terrorist attacks in St. Petersburg and Stockholm. My thoughts are with the whole of humanity too given the dangerous position the world finds itself in at this time. I only hope that common sense will prevail in the end.
With all the threatening news that hits our screens every day I thought it was time to wish each and every one of you a nice day. I think you have all earned a nice day and you all certainly deserve one.
So I hope you can all find something today that will make you smile or lift your heart. Maybe that will be something small like the sun glinting off some Spring blossom. A friend may make you laugh and smile. Your child might give you a hug. You might catch your partner giving you a look that only they can give you that makes you feel warm inside. Maybe it will be something bigger. Whatever it is I would be delighted if you would share it with me. I would love to know what has made your day a nice day today.
I was writing to someone yesterday in a comment and I said it was my chosen path to seek out beauty in this world. I wondered afterwards if indeed it is my choice or if I am just that kind of person. Maybe it is in my make up and I have no choice in it at all. I find myself as a person who has is only interested in beauty, love, peace and the awesomeness of nature. I do not understand hate, selfishness and intolerance. These things are a foreign language to me that I will never understand. I hear the words but I can't make sense of them.
I find myself dreaming of mountains, lochs and glens. Deserted beaches in the rain, hillsides in the snow, out on a boat in the sun. Meeting new people on my travels, sharing experiences, laughing, smiling.................all of these things and many more. To put my boots on, take my camera in hand and get out there away from it all is in my mind a lot of the time. What beauty can I discover out there and try to capture in a picture? Can I capture the feeling as well as the vision? Should I just put my camera down and soak up the experience and fill my senses with all that is around me?
Have a nice day everyone. Grab yourself a moment if you are not having a nice day. Find that little nugget in the day that can help you see there is more to life. Hold on to it and have a nice day tomorrow.
In all my years I have never met such a group of people as you. Since my first day here on dA I have met so much kindness and support and I never take that for granted. I appreciate all your comments and faves. I really do. I have so much love for you all. I also love that you create such wonderful pieces of art and literature. There are no people on earth like artists. You make things, you don't break things. You add to this world every day, you don't take away from it. Everything you create adds to the beauty in the world. Every line you draw, every brush stroke, every photograph, every word you write........they all go towards a treasure that I am honoured to be able to share.
And share it I will. Here is a selection of pictures I have come across in the last few weeks that I am delighted to share with you. As always, all kinds of people are represented here but they have things in common too. ART, passion, creativity and love. Please enjoy these pictures and I'm sure the artists would be delighted if you let them know you have seen their work. Thank you all so much for your time.
Thank you very much for taking the time to look at all these pictures. It seems the longer I am here the more I discover. I really hope you found some gems in this selection. Please say hi to the artists if you have a moment. I'm sure they would be happy to hear from you.
It just remains for me to wish you much love Keep your passion, keep being creative, spread the love, take care of each other and, of course, have a nice day
Merry Christmas everyone.
Merry Christmas everyone. It has been a cold week here. Colder than we have seen for many a year. Even here, in the south of England, we had snow a week ago and it is still here because it has been so cold. I would say I love this weather if I didn't have to drive in it very early in the morning  I love the feeling of the cold biting at my fingers and toes and how my nose tingles and my eyes water. I love pulling on my thick socks and my big, heavy jumpers (sweaters). Pulling on my serious walking boots and zipping up my serious coat. I use the word serious because this is the weather these things were designed for. You couldn't wear this coat unless the temperature was below zero or you'd be too hot. My fleecy hat tops it off and I feel well protected but I can still feel how cold it is without actually freezing out there. The main roads have been cleared pretty well but the side roads have been left as have the pavements (sidewalks) which makes it quite exciting walking
The season of the witch.
Here we are just past Halloween. Last night was bonfire night over here where we have huge bonfires and fireworks displays. These events really do mark deep autumn time and the rapid approach of winter. It hasn't really been that cold yet but, in contrast to the previous dry months it has been very wet. To celebrate all this wetness I am going to the Isle Of Skye next weekend for a few days. I know I always joke about Scotland being wet so 'take your coat' when you go............well this year it has been very wet so it is going to be a challenging week. You know I don't mind a bit of rain but I am already preparing myself for the possibility of this being a bit of a wash out. You never know though. You have to get out there anyway because if you are not there you can't shoot it. So I'm going to put myself out here at least and see what happens. I have been thinking about the differences between Skye (which is the Inner Hebrides) and Harris and Lewis etc. (the Outer Hebrides) and I
A Hebridean Odyssey
And I am back from my first trip to the Outer Hebrides. Here is my GPS trace for the time I was there. I left Oban for Castlebay in the south on the Monday and then worked my way up to leave Stornaway for Ullapool on the Wednesday nine days later. The GPS failed on the last ferry to Ullapool because it was a much newer ferry and all the electronics from the bridge interfered with my little unit. The Outer Hebrides or the Western Isles (also known as Na h-Innse Gall or the Long Isle) is a group of islands that lie off the north west coast of Scotland. The Isle Of Skye lies between the Outer Hebrides and the mainland. On my trip I got the Calmac ferry from Oban to Castlebay on the Isle of Barra in the south. I was there Monday and Tuesday night then moved on by ferry to Eriskay and a drive through South Uist, Benbecula into north Uist. I stayed there Wednesday and Thursday night then on by ferry from Berneray to Leverburgh on Harris. I stayed near Tarbert for two nights. Then on
Island hopping.
Ladies and gentlemen the excitement is building here. On Saturday I am heading off to the Outer Hebrides for a couple of weeks. I will be island hopping as I try to see as much as I can of the islands. This is the first time I will have been there and I can't wait. Although I have been looking and doing research I always find that nothing really prepares you properly. It is not till you are there that you can get a feel of the place and try to become one with it. On Saturday I'm driving to Fort William and then on Sunday I go to Oban. It is from here that I get the ferry to the Isle of Barra on Monday morning. I spend a day or so here before catching another ferry to Eriskay then drive across the causeway to South Uist and then onto Benbecula also reached by a causeway. I then stay in North Uist. There are six islands here all joined by causeways. From there on Friday off to Harris. There for a couple of days then on to Lewis on the Sunday. I'm there till the Wednesday when I head
